SUN

MILLENIUM

With SUN's popularity growing, they soon began touring with some of the music industries biggest recording artist such as "Cameo, Natalie Cole, The OJays, Peabo Bryson, The Commodores, The BarKays, Chic, Rick James, and Ashford and Simpson" just to name a few. After months of touring and doing TV shows. SUN began working on their next album titled "Destination Sun". That album included Cheatham's second single release. "Light of the Universe" as well as the party jam "Everybody Disco Down" and the hit single "Radiation Level", written by Byron Byrd.  Cheatham would soon become music director for the band allowing him to produce and arrange music for SUN's live shows. Cheatham would remain with "SUN" for another year before leaving in 1980.

SUN MILLENNIUM features former guitarist/lead singer Keith Cheatham of the Capitol Records R&B recording group “SUN”. Cheatham joined the band in 1978 and would play a major role in the group’s success. Although SUN signed with Capitol Records in 1976, it wasn’t until Cheatham joined the group and teamed up with former SUN’s drummer, Kym Yancey and wrote some of the bands biggest hits. These songs include the first single release “Dance (do what you wanna do)”, the smooth ballad, “I Had a Choice” and the smash hit, “Sun is Here” all which appeared on the group’s biggest selling album “SUNBURN”.

After SUN’S break-up in the early 1980’s, Cheatham began receiving phone calls from SUN’s manager, Beau Ray Fleming to put the band back together again for tours, but because of Cheatham’s busy schedule with his new band, “SUEDE” and writing and producing jingles, was unable to do so. In 2005, Cheatham would land his next major roll as guitarist and music director for Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Bootsy Collins. After recording a number of album projects and three world tours with Bootsy, Cheatham was surprised to learn about the huge demand for “SUN” after being recognized performing with Bootsy’s Funk Unity Band. That was enough to convince him to put Sun-Millennium together and perform some of the songs he wrote while in the group.

Cheatham added MILLENNIUM to the new band because of its connection with the turn of the century. It will be a combination of the same great SUN songs that fans around the world enjoyed, but with a new intergalactic twist. Cheatham will be joined by Bootsy’s Funk Unity Band members Candice “Galax-C” Cheatham on lead/background vocals, “Randy Villars” on saxophone and keyboards, “Rashon Murph” on keyboards along with “Nehemiah Mazion” on Drums, and “Ross Miller” on Bass and background vocals along with the rest of the crew.
